£20 buys a 50 kilo bag of rice which
can feed a family of eight for a month
£20 will give sight to a patient
waiting for cataract surgery
£20 per month
will sponsor an orphaned child's education, support and wellbeing
in the community
£5 can pay a child's school term fee and some materials
£2 will buy a half metre concrete slab to cover a drain
£1 will provide breakfast for 10 children each day
HOW DO WE KEEP
CONTROL OVER
MONEY AND MATERIALS
.
I don't hand
over money or materials to a third party. I barter (I'm quite good
at it now) and buy most things personally and obtain receipts
whenever possible and I try to pay bills myself. I then take items
personally accompanied by friends/family/volunteers to the people
or area.
We do our utmost to supervise the work being done and take lots of pictures so that you can see what has been achieved with your money.
When an Oasis
Project representative from the UK is not in The Gambia then little
money/material is left in the care of anyone else.
By working this
way, I can hopefully ensure that the hard earned cash we are given
gets to those who have a need and the project it's intended
for.
